Buildertrend introduces award to encourage and celebrate volunteerism
Tech company doubles paid service hours in 2021 to boost community activism within its workforce
OMAHA, Neb. (Jan. 25, 2021) โ Buildertrend, the leading software solution for homebuilders, remodelers and contractors, announced a new workplace award to inspire volunteerism among its workforce. The Volunteer Spotlight Award will be awarded quarterly to an employee who demonstrates exemplary service in the community.
Dan Houghton, co-founder and co-CEO of Buildertrend, announced the award and its first honoree, Nick Contreras, at the companyโs quarterly town hall meeting on January 21. Contreras, a customer development representative, was recently named Volunteer of the Year by the Boys and Girls Club of the Midlands โ an honor he earned among hundred of volunteers across 14 clubs in Nebraska and Iowa.
Richard Webb, president and CEO of The Boys and Girls Club of the Midlands, described Contreras as an asset to the club and to the Omaha community. โHis incredible work as a volunteer is a constant reminder of our mission to inspire and engage all young people.โ
In addition to being honored at an all-company meeting, the Volunteer Spotlight employee will receive a $1,000 company bonus, and a $1,000 company-sponsored donation to the nonprofit organization of the employeeโs choice.
The Volunteer Spotlight Award follows Buildertrendโs initiatives to strengthen its community involvement. In 2020, Buildertrend employees donated 800 volunteer hours. The companyโs leadership team hopes to make an even greater impact in 2021 and doubled the amount of Volunteer Time Off each employee receives from eight to 16 hours per year.
By offering each employee two full paid workdays to volunteer, Buildertrend provides more opportunity for coworkers to contribute together while also allowing team members to find causes and organizations they are passionate about and may be interested in serving individually.
To further amplify the impact of its socially responsible endeavors, Buildertrend created a Diversity Equity and Inclusivity Council, a new employee resource group of driven teammates who are empowered to spearhead inclusivity at Buildertrend.
โBuildertrendโs culture is one that celebrates its wins and accomplishments, but also recognizes that rarely do we ever do anything alone,โ said Brandy Menaugh, Buildertrendโs vice president of people. โGiving back, in whatever ways we can, helps connect our team members with the Omaha community in a meaningful way, and these efforts are even more critical now with our renewed focus on being more intentional about how we engage in our community.โ
Beyond offering more Volunteer Time Off, Buildertrend strives to find creative opportunities for its workforce to make an impact in the community. Noteworthy partnerships in the past year included:
- Habitat for Humanity of Omaha Brew Haha: As part of a longtime relationship between Buildertrend and Habitat, the tech company served as the presenting sponsor of this weeklong virtual event that supported the organizationโs mission to build affordable housing for those in need.
- The Heart Ministry Center: Buildertrend employees participated in several drive-through food banks, and the company made a donation to the nonprofitโs annual Christmas drive.
- Nebraska Community Blood Bank: Twice in 2020, Buildertrend employees masked up and made it out to the Nebraska Community Blood Bank to donate blood during a time when supply was critically low, due to a decline in donations throughout the pandemic.
- Buildertrend 5K Run: With a match from the company, employees who participated in this group exercise made a donation to one of four causes: Abide Omaha, The Big Garden, CASA for Douglas County and Prairie STEM.
โBuildertrendโs culture is built upon the belief that we exist to provide a better way. That goes for the construction industry we serve and the community in which we thrive,โ said Houghton. โWe introduced the employee Volunteer Spotlight Award to shine a light on individuals who truly live up to our โbetter wayโ mantra. Weโll continue to encourage our people to do their part as we all work together to make a greater impact on the Omaha community in years to come.โ
