Lead Opportunities in Buildertrend serve as avenues to track potential business. Whether you're on-site working from a mobile device or at the office, capturing lead data is crucial to efficient prospect management and landing the next sale.

Creating a Lead Opportunity
Lead Opportunities can be added manually, imported from Excel or automatically created within the program when a client submits their information on your website.
Creating a Lead Manually
To begin, select Lead Opportunities from the Sales header and then click + Lead Opportunity from the Lead Opportunity dashboard.
Add a contact to the opportunity by clicking:

New Contact – to create a new contact in Buildertrend

Choose from Existing Contacts – to select a contact already entered in Buildertrend

Enter the lead's opportunity data and Save when finished.
Importing Leads From Excel
From the List View, select Import Leads.


Click Browse Computer and select the saved excel file. Select Next to proceed.

Review the columns to ensure that each column on the excel file matches the appropriate Buildertrend Lead Opportunity field. Select Next once all columns have been mapped.


Create a Lead Contact Form for your Website
Buildertrend seamlessly connects with your website, effortlessly channeling leads straight into your lead management system. When prospects complete and submit their details, a new lead is instantly generated in Buildertrend, alerting your sales team right away. This not only streamlines processes, saving time and energy, but also leaves a lasting impression on your potential clients.
Begin by navigating to your Lead Opportunities from the Sales dropdown, then click Add contact form to website.
Customize your Contact Form by dragging Lead Fields and Lead Custom Fields on the left to the Form Fields column on the right.

When you are finished customizing your Lead Contact Form, click Save & Preview to see what it will look like before embedding it on your website.

Embedding the Lead Contact Form on your Website
Once you have created and previewed your Lead Contact Form, click Installation Instructions for information on embedding the form on your website.

Have your website designer follow the steps included in the Installation Instructions to embed the Lead Contact Form on your website.


File Management
Simply store unlimited photos, videos and documents for each Lead Opportunity in Buildertrend. Keeping all information documented and organized in one spot will always be a win.
From a Lead Opportunity, navigate to the General tab. Scroll to the bottom, select Add to attach a file to the lead or Create New Doc to create a new Word or Excel document electronically within Buildertrend.

✏️Note: File attachments will be carried over when the lead is converted to a job. 🎉

Converting a Lead to a Job
After following up with your Lead Opportunity and reaching the presale stage, where you create a rough estimate, send proposals, and draft a construction schedule, converting the opportunity into a presale job unlocks the full functionality of a Buildertrend job, allowing you to manage the project more effectively.
Start by selecting the Lead Opportunity you would like to convert to a Job. Use the + New Job dropdown to create a job from the Lead Opportunity.
✏️Note: Converting your Lead will copy over any information, files, and legacy proposals collected during the Lead stage to the Job. This process ensures a smooth transition and maintains data consistency throughout the project lifecycle.
