To begin, you will need to start with the Area tool by drawing where you would like the joist to overlap.

The area tool is located in the top left corner of Buildertrend Takeoff.

Once all area settings have been updated, click Start.

Next, use the Area tool to measure out the room.

Once you have the area drawn, select the area.

Next, click the Tools tab at the top and select Joist Tool.

At this point, you will need to select Floor System or Roof System. You will then choose your material manufacture, joist catalog, and the joist size.

Fill out all fields to help streamline the process for each room.

You will have the option to save this information, to ensure you do not have to create from scratch each time.

Click the Save button, located next to the template bar.

Label the template and click Save.

Once you click start on your joist settings, it will draw the rim board followed by the floor joists on your plans.

From this point moving forward you can continue the process to draw the area for each room, launch your Joist tool, and utilize your newly created template.

You have now successfully utilized your joist tool in Buildertrend Takeoff.
