To begin, you will need to measure out an area on your Roof plans before using the Joist Tool.

Click on the Area tab.

 

Once you click on the Area tab, update the below:

• Area Name

• Area Type – (Standard Area)

• Color

Then click Start to measure the Area.

Draw the Area on your roof plans to measure each separate roof section, double click once an area is complete, then move on to the next section of the roof.

Select the measurement on the Pages view located on the left, then click on the highlighted area on your set of plans to begin with the Joist Tool.

Once the area is highlighted, go to the Tools tab and click on Joist Tool.

Update the below information related to the Joist Tool:

• Roof System – Check box

• Material Manufacture – General

• Joist Catalog – Created company Roof Rafter Catalog

• Joist Folders – Select the correct Roof Rafter part folder

• Material Length Calculation – Nearest two feet

• Material Direction – The material direction is dependent on the direction of the arrows with each roof area

• Pitch – Will be based off of each roof area and will be labeled as a ratio

• Min Material Length – 8

• New Material Length – 16

• Include Legend – Check box

• Linear Color – Select a color

 

You have the ability to save this joist system to a Template for future use.

Click Start to begin.

Once you have saved your Template and clicked Save, the joist tool will update on your plans.

You now have successfully utilized the Joist Tool for your Roof Rafters!
