Tankersley Construction Behind the Business: Behind-the-scenes home build tour

Home Tour With Tankersley Construction | Buildertrend

In this final installment of our Behind the Business series with Tankersley Construction, Heather and Steve are taking you on a tour of their latest and greatest home build. Every detail was made with the homeowners in mind in order to bring their dream home to life. Follow along as we walk through all the details, from the architecturally distinct roofline to the backyard oasis.

Tankersley Construction is all about precision.

Heather and Steve don’t miss a thing, whether it’s the exact placement of an outlet in a children’s computer room or ensuring enough structural support on a wall that’s 90% windows.

And in this virtual tour of their current home build, you’ll get a sneak peek at their decision-making process and what all goes into a two-year project to create a client’s dream home. Check it out.

The tour highlights

The stunning 6,000-square-foot home – located in Granite Bay, California – has been two years in the making, and they’re just weeks away from handing over the keys.

These three characteristics make Tankersley Construction a force to be reckoned with – and we’re sharing how tech helped them become one of the top builders in the industry.

Getting clients involved

From initial design conception all the way through construction, Tankersley Construction’s clients are involved at every step. By using Buildertrend’s Customer Portal, the Tankersleys can connect with their clients on a daily basis to confirm change orders or show daily progress. This keeps things simple, so they’re not fielding phone calls or sifting through emails all day.

Heather, Steve and the Tankersley team worked tirelessly with the homeowners on this project to ensure every must-have on their list made it from the drawing board to the build. From little things like designing a computer room that would work for both children and adults, to big things like creating a cozy music room and library where the artistic family could gather in comfort – Steve and Heather brought them to life.

A huge ask from their client was to build a kitchen where they could overlook the pool while washing dishes. Not an easy feat, the Tankersley team worked side-by-side with the landscapers to ensure proper placement of the pool. They even managed to squeeze in a basketball court, in-ground trampoline and a zipline.

Having the homeowners involved from the start made the project move smoother and made the client experience a 10 out of 10.

Focusing on the details

When building a large home, it can feel daunting to think about every little detail. But nothing slips through the cracks with the Tankersleys.

In terms of design, this is a home like no other: There’s a unique roofline that swoops and pitches, a double-sided fireplace that looks like it’s straight from the future and a modern kitchen backsplash that seamlessly continues into the countertops.

But these details require a lot of precision and coordination. And that’s where Buildertrend comes in.

With the Schedule and To-Do’s features connected, the team was able to ensure each task was completed on time, and everyone involved knew what was needed from them. Subs and the field crew could quickly communicate through the mobile app, so everyone was kept in the loop. And all plans were easily accessed by whoever needed them, without accidentally looking at an outdated file.

The Tankersleys know the best way to stay organized is by using construction management software like Buildertrend.

Going above and beyond

The Tankersleys don’t take shortcuts.

If a client opts out of an upgrade that could potentially cause problems down the road, Heather and Steve educate them, so there are no surprises and encourage them if they truly believe it’s worth the added cost.

Before a build even begins, they’ll go to each neighbor with flyers and gift cards to introduce themselves. By giving neighbors their direct line to the office or the project manager, they garner respect for themselves and their clients. They don’t want to be responsible for creating a rift between their clients and their new neighbors.

It’s truly a team effort, and Heather and Steve attribute a lot of their success to their team and subs who come together to build the best for their clients.
