construction2style Behind the Business: Building community in construction (part 4 of 5)
This week we bring you the fourth installment of our Behind the Business series featuring construction2style. In this five-part feature, you’ll follow the journey of co-founders and spouses, Jamie and Morgan Molitor, as they navigate the world of construction and technology. Here’s their story on building a community for their industry – and why it’s so important to form connections.
The construction industry, known for long hours and isolated work environments, can be a lonely place for many business owners.
However, up-and-coming home builders, construction2style, are working hard to change this stereotype. By refusing to fall into the norm of keeping their secrets to themselves, the Molitors are embracing their competition and building a community of shared knowledge and expertise.
“We just want to flip the script when it comes to our industry,” said Morgan, co-founder and creative director at construction2style.
In this Behind the Business video, Morgan tells us the story of how they turned colleagues into friends and formed a thriving group of like-minded individuals with the same goal: To create a more innovative and resilient industry.
Creating educational content for contractors
At the beginning of their career, the Molitors started a blog where they taught home renovation how-to’s and shared information on how much DIY projects might cost.
It was educational content – but it performed so well it’s no surprise their blog quickly caught the eyes of top brands. They started forming partnerships with these brands in order to bring in revenue.
Friends and family were taking notice of their success and started reaching out with requests to pick their brains. Morgan saw an opportunity there and found that by offering paid online and in-person courses, they could create a new stream of revenue.
Forming connections in the construction industry
But for the Molitors, courses weren’t enough. They were ready to go bigger.
Morgan reached out to fellow builder, Brad Leavitt president of AFT Construction, to see if he was interested in speaking at a contractors-only conference she planned to host. Immediately on board, Brad was excited to be a part of something that was very much needed in their industry.
And no surprise, the conference was a huge success.
Following the buzz of this first event, Brad connected the Molitors with Nick Schiffer owner of NS Builders, and the three of them launched something even more powerful: The Contractor Coalition Summit.
This bi-annual conference brings together general contractors for four days of educational and inspiring sessions geared toward business growth.
Creating a community of industry professionals was exactly the vision construction2style had at the start of their own business. The goal has always been to share knowledge and help each other succeed.
Flipping the script
Building strong connections in construction is essential for not only sharing valuable knowledge and resources, but also for much needed support during hard times.
“Sharing information, passing on a lead. That’s nothing compared to what matters at the end of the day,” Morgan said.
And what does matter at the end of the day? Building beautiful homes, creating amazing experiences for your clients – and having time to spend with loved ones.
What’s Morgan’s secret to achieving all of the above? It’s Buildertrend. In the first installment of this series, she shares how we helped give her and her husband their lives back.
