Bring the indoor living spaces outside

As we mentioned above, one of the biggest trends being seen in 2020 is the expansion of living space to the outside areas of the home. Especially now, many people are spending much of their time in their homes and they’re able to “get away” by spending more time outside.

Many people are realizing that their living space isn’t confined by the walls of their home and that outdoor space can be more than just comfortable patio furniture. From kitchens and dining rooms to yoga studios and meditation spaces, the outdoor, experience-based spaces are everything you need right now.

Flex that green thumb with landscaping

In addition to bringing living spaces to the outdoors, people are spending more time and money on transforming their landscaping. Yes, landscaping in the front of the house does a lot to increase the curb appeal, but a gorgeous backyard can do just as much to sell a house, and in the meantime, you get to enjoy it.

Trends for backyard landscaping include the use of geometric and contemporary design elements that are incorporated with greenery, flowering plants and trees. Another hot trend right now is outdoor tiling. The simple combination of porcelain tiles with grass is a fun way to play with textures and adds a unique look to any backyard.

Make a splash with your outdoor space and invest in a pool

It’s no secret that having a pool in your backyard definitely brings you up a few notches on the coolness scale, but it can also increase the value of your home. These days, there are countless styles and designs that can fit almost any outdoor space and budget.

Adding a pool to your backyard oasis is not only a good investment, it also provides a great way to spend time with family or have small get-togethers with friends.

Create a cozy space with a fire pit

Who doesn’t love a good fire pit? No matter the aesthetic you’re looking to create – modern, rustic, in-ground, above ground – fire pits are rising on the list of must-haves for backyard living.

Fire pits are obviously great for entertaining purposes and even better for quiet nights at home with a glass of wine and a good book. Have we convinced you yet?

Set the mood with outdoor lighting

Using landscape lighting and up-lighting are a great way to highlight all the cool features and hard work you’ve put into your outdoor space. You can also use string lights above your patio or deck area to add the effect of a ceiling. And if you have a pool, adding pool lighting makes for a cool glow that is perfect for fun night swims.

The use of warm LED lights brighten up outdoor living spaces while adding an element of safety for nighttime activities with family or friends. And to save on electrical costs, you can even use small solar panels to power some or all outdoor lighting.
