Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) with Buildertrend Payments
On Monday, Feb. 2, Buildertrend is launching new enhancements to bill payments to increase your security and improve the payment experience.
How do I set up MFA?
You will be prompted in the Buildertrend platform at login to choose an MFA method and complete setup.
Why do I need to complete MFA?
MFA helps confirm that you are the one logging in by requiring a second verification method in addition to your password. Because passwords can be guessed, stolen or phished by bad actors outside of Buildertrend’s platform, MFA provides an extra layer of protection, such as a code sent to your phone or through an authenticator app.
Is MFA automatically turned on for all users on my account?
If you are exclusively using our Bill Pay feature to pay your subcontractors and vendors, yes. If you are also using Client Payments, only your Org Owner(s) will need to complete MFA.
Why is Buildertrend requiring MFA now?
As security threats like phishing attempts continue to rise, Buildertrend is strengthening account protection to keep your business and financial data safe. Multi-factor authentication (MFA), paired with upcoming ACH payments, provides a proven, highly secure way to verify users and prevent unauthorized access. Beyond security, this update also improves the overall payment experience – reducing processing errors, creating a more streamlined workflow, and ensuring your partners get paid quickly and reliably. Ultimately, MFA helps safeguard your information while keeping your payment processes running smoothly.
What additional enhancements are happening to Bill Pay?
There are three key updates:

MFA will be enforced for all users

ACH processing becomes available for Bill Pay – this requires a quick setup if you have not previously used Bill Pay

We’re introducing the trusted payments user role for authorized users to process payments
How does the “Trusted Payments” user role work?
This is a new user role that can be found in Company Settings > Payments Settings > Subcontractors. Org Owners will automatically be applied, but additional authorized users can be added starting Feb. 2 to send payments and edit sub and vendor contact information.
