Success in construction isn’t just about hammering nails – it’s about building a business that stands the test of time.

But how do you transition from grinding out small projects to running a thriving, scalable company? That’s exactly what the Contractor Coalition Summit is all about.

Founded by industry leaders Nick Schiffer of NS Builders, Brad Leavitt of AFT Construction and Morgan Molitor of construction2style, CCS is a movement to help builders and remodelers strategically grow their businesses.

We sat down with Morgan to talk about the pivotal moments in their careers, lessons learned and why you need to be in Omaha for the next CCS event.

How did your businesses evolve over time?

Morgan Molitor: “Each of us started our businesses at different points and in different areas of the construction industry, and all within different markets across the U.S.

From high-end custom homes to residential remodels, boutique renovations and design, we’ve each evolved in unique ways. What we have in common is we started small, learned through experience and built brands rooted in quality, innovation and collaboration.

Today, our businesses have grown beyond just construction. We’ve each expanded into education, brand partnerships, content creation and business development – all with the goal of helping others build profitable, sustainable companies.

That’s why we created the Contractor Coalition Summit, to bring together contractors, remodelers, designers and builders who are serious about scaling their businesses with strategy, not just hard work.

At CCS, we’re here to break down barriers, share everything we’ve learned and build a community that thrives on collaboration over competition. Our mission is simple: elevate the construction industry by providing real, actionable insights that help business owners grow – whether it’s through pricing strategies, branding, systems or leadership.

We want attendees to walk away with the tools, confidence and network to take their businesses to the next level.

This industry is tough, and it can often feel like you’re navigating it alone. But when you come to this conference, you’ll gain a network and support system that ensures you’re never left in the dark again.

This isn’t just a conference – it’s a movement to redefine what success looks like in the construction industry.”

What were the key moments that helped you level up?

Morgan: “A few key moments changed the trajectory for all of us:

  • Investing in brand and marketing. We treated our businesses like brands, not just job sites, and that changed how clients, vendors and the industry viewed us. Beyond just showcasing projects, we focused on building people – our team, our audience and our community. By being vulnerable and transparent online, we built trust, established authority and attracted the right opportunities.
  • Surrounding ourselves with the right people. Hiring strategically, building a strong network and learning from others in the field helped accelerate our growth. The right people don’t just help your business – they push you to be better, challenge your thinking and hold you accountable to your bigger goals.
  • Implementing the right systems. Tools like Buildertrend helped streamline processes, improve communication and eliminate inefficiencies that were holding us back. Strong systems don’t just make projects run smoother – they free up mental space to lead, create and scale.
  • Diversifying revenue streams. Instead of relying solely on client projects, we expanded into digital media, partnerships, speaking and education – allowing us to scale beyond just labor and time. By sharing what we know, we’ve been able to monetize our expertise while helping others build their businesses, too.”

Scaling while maintaining quality – what’s the secret?

Morgan: “Scaling is about processes, not just people. The biggest mistake contractors make is thinking adding more jobs or more employees equals growth. Without clear systems, adding more only creates more chaos.

The key to sustainable scaling is:

  • Dial in your processes. Every step, from estimating to invoicing to project management, should be systematized before you grow.
  • Hire with intention. You need a team that understands and upholds your standards. More people won’t solve inefficiencies.

Know your numbers. Too many builders scale without understanding their profit margins, overhead and pricing strategies. If you don’t know your numbers, you can’t scale successfully.”

Niching down vs. diversifying – what’s the right approach?

Morgan: “Both are important, it’s about timing.

At the start, niching down helps establish credibility and expertise. If you try to do everything, you’re just average at everything. But once you’ve built a solid foundation, diversifying strategically can create stability and new revenue streams.

For example, we’ve each expanded into areas like brand partnerships, content creation, consulting and digital products. These additions allow us to scale beyond just project-based revenue and create long-term business sustainability.”

What role do financial planning and forecasting play in business expansion?

Morgan: “Everything. If you’re not planning financially, you’re guessing. And guessing in construction leads to major risks.

We emphasize job costing, forecasting and profit margin tracking at every step.

We also price for the business we want, not just the jobs we get. Many builders underprice themselves, thinking it will lead to more work, but in reality, it leads to overwork and under-profitability.

Financial clarity allows you to hire the right team, invest in better tools and plan for long-term success instead of constantly playing catch-up.”

How has branding and marketing played a role in getting the kind of jobs you want?

Morgan: “Branding and marketing completely changed our businesses.

  • Social media, content marketing and strategic branding have allowed us to attract the right clients, not just any clients.
  • Marketing positions you as the expert. Instead of chasing leads, the right leads come to you.
  • A strong online presence builds trust before you even meet a client. People see your work, your process and your expertise, making it easier to close deals.

It’s not about just posting pictures, it’s about telling the story of your business, your values and your expertise.”

How do events like the Contractor Coalition Summit help builders refine their business strategy and network with the right people?

Morgan: “The Contractor Coalition Summit is unlike any other industry event because it’s led by builders, for builders. We created it because there was nothing like it, an intimate, real space where we share everything we’ve learned to help others level up.

At CCS, you’re not just listening to speakers, you’re getting direct, actionable advice that can change how you run your business. You’re also building relationships with like-minded contractors, vendors and partners who can support your growth long after the event is over.”

The biggest takeaway? You don’t have to do this alone. The right network, knowledge and strategies can transform your business.”

What’s the biggest mistake you made in business growth?

Morgan: “Thinking we had to do everything ourselves.

At some point, we all fell into the trap of wearing every hat, project manager, estimator, marketer, social media manager, finance expert. And while that’s sometimes necessary in the beginning, holding onto everything for too long slows you down.

The lesson? Delegate. Build a team. Invest in systems. The faster you remove yourself from the daily grind, the faster your business can grow.”

One piece of advice for contractors looking to level up?

Morgan: “Think bigger. Too many contractors operate with a ‘just get through this project’ mindset instead of a long-term business strategy.

  • Build a brand, not just a service.
  • Price your work for profitability, not just to stay busy.
  • Surround yourself with people who push you to do better.
  • Invest in systems and processes that allow you to scale.

It’s not just about working harder, it’s about working smarter, more intentionally and with the right people in your corner.”

Why should builders and contractors attend the summer session in Omaha?

Morgan: “If you’re serious about growing your business, building a strong network and learning directly from contractors who have been where you are, this event is for you.

What you’ll take away:

  • Real, actionable strategies to improve profitability, efficiency and branding.
  • A powerful network of like-minded builders who want to see you succeed.
  • A behind-the-scenes look at how industry leaders run their businesses.
  • Access to top industry sponsors who can help streamline your operations.

And let’s be real, it’s also going to be a damn good time. With Buildertrend’s hospitality, College World Series energy and networking events, this is not your average conference.

This is what makes the Contractor Coalition Summit different.

It’s not just about listening to speakers – it’s about real conversations, real solutions and real growth. We’ve built businesses that work for us, not just businesses that keep us working. And we’re here to help others do the same.

See you in Omaha.”
