Buildertrend named one of the best places to work in America

Inc Announcement Blog Cover

Great companies don’t just build great products or services. They also build great workplaces.

That’s why we’re so honored to be named to Inc. magazine’s annual list of Best Workplaces for 2020, a competitive national ranking that places Buildertrend among the top employers in the United States.

This is Inc.’s fifth annual Best Workplaces list, comprised of 395 companies from more than 3,000 submissions. Those that were selected have created exceptional workplaces through vibrant cultures, deep employee engagement and stellar benefits.

It’s been a winning year for us. This honor follows our 2020 recognition as the top workplace in the Best Places to Work contest in Omaha for the second consecutive year by Baird Holm LLP and program sponsor the Greater Omaha Chamber.

When it comes to defining the “best” in regard to workplaces, it’s about more than a kitchen stocked with snacks, cold beer on tap or ample vacation time

Although you’ll find all of these tangible (and admittedly awesome) perks at Buildertrend, they aren’t what set us apart from other workplaces.

It’s a harder-to-quantify quality that does: Our people-first company culture.

“Recognition on a local and now national level speaks to Buildertrend’s commitment to employee engagement and how we always put our people first,” said Dan Houghton, co-founder and co-CEO of Buildertrend.

“We believe our team’s relentless drive and positive attitude are the cornerstones to our success. Being a member of the Buildertrend team means coming to work every day with higher expectations than the day before. Even as everyone works from home during the COVID-19 crisis, we’ve seen just as much – if not more – engagement and productivity.”

Each business who entered the national Inc. contest took part in an anonymous employee survey, conducted by Quantum Workplace, on topics that included trust, management effectiveness, workplace perks and confidence in the future. To take part in the employee survey, Best Workplaces contenders are required to be independent companies based in the U.S. with more than 10 employees.

Since 2006, we’ve empowered the construction industry with a better way to build – and our team members with a better way to work. We’re now a nationally recognized top employer in Omaha and proud to service the industry with the world’s leading construction project management software.

We made several improvements to workplace benefits in 2019, a demonstration of our company mantra, which is to always strive to be better. To ensure a higher quality of life for every employee, we added several new perks, including paid maternity leave, work-from-home options and a bonus reimbursement option that our people can redeem for life expenses such as childcare, tuition or a down payment on a home.

“Buildertrend is powered by our culture of collaboration,” Houghton said. “This type of meaningful engagement helps make changes at every level of our organization. Employee feedback guides us when choosing new benefits.”

That collaborative culture has prevailed even as we’ve made adjustments to work from home during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our employees stay connected through video meetings, virtual happy hours, social media contests and interactive resources that foster opportunities to share experiences such as working alongside pets, keeping kids entertained and wellness ideas.

Our people-first culture has empowered the team to maintain a strong sense of workplace identity throughout the pandemic. That’s why, during this time, leadership has shared online resources for health and wellness, encouraging employees to take advantage of free company-sponsored counseling services and asking that everyone retain a healthy work-life balance and to reach out to colleagues if they need to talk.

Our mission, to change the way the world builds, is more than met by the efforts of our employees. Every day is a new opportunity to make our customers’ businesses smarter, stronger and better. Together, we work as one team to save the day for construction professionals around the world, and share a laugh at the same time.

“We have always tried to make Buildertrend a place where great people want to work – even if that work is done virtually for now,” Houghton said. “This award reinforces we’re doing what we need to continue making Buildertrend one of the best workplaces, not only in Omaha but in the nation.”
